This session provided an overview of models that take communities past temporary access and land insecurity toward land tenure and land sovereignty. Panelists shared lessons from Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Brazil.

Johanna’s presentation focused on the tools and techniques that Equity Trust uses to protect affordable and active agricultural land and highlighted opportunities to adapt these tools to an urban context. The presentation drew on Equity Trust’s two decades of farmland protection work, including examples of urban projects we have been involved with, and shared information about our new initiative looking at secure tenure for urban agriculture.
