Call for Stories! Please share your connection with Equity Trust or projects we have worked with

July 2011

Equity Trust just celebrated our 20th anniversary! As an organization, we have been privileged to work on many truly innovative projects for economic reform and take part in rethinking the concepts—and remaking the reality—of property, ownership, and wealth. For 20 years, Equity Trust has collaborated with communities, allied organizations, and individuals in the creation of:

  • Permanently affordable, locally controlled, community land trust housing;
  • Alternative farm and food economies through community supported agriculture;
  • Opportunities for truly socially responsible investing through community lending;
  • Conservation strategies that go beyond land preservation to address affordability and community benefit;
  • Locally controlled resources that make communities stronger and more resilient.

As we celebrate this history, we want to hear from you. In order to tell our story, we need yours. By gathering and sharing stories from people and organizations that have been part of this extraordinary work in one way or another, we hope to paint a broader picture of the movements we support and the vision that we share. Whether you are a donor, lender, or borrower, a project partner, beneficiary, or advisor, you have helped to shape Equity Trust’s mission and to make our work possible. We want to hear how you became a part of this circle, and what about the work resonates most with you. Whether your organization has received technical assistance, a loan, or other support from Equity Trust, partnered with us on a project, or simply works in similar ways toward the same ends, we would enjoy learning how your project has evolved, where your work is today, and how you are promoting equity in the world and changing the way people own and use property.

Chuck Matthei wrote that:

People are of intrinsically equal value and are inextricably bound up with one another. The more that we are perceived to be trying to respond to the needs of others, the more others are moved to respond in kind, creating a ripple effect that can expand far beyond its point of origin.

This anniversary reminds us of all the remarkable people we have worked alongside, and the inspiring successes we have seen communities achieve. Beginning this summer, we will have a chance to listen to you and learn more about your connections to Equity Trust and the ways in which you’ve been inextricably bound up with us! We know that these projects have had ripple effects far beyond your community, and every time the story is exchanged with someone new, that ripple continues.

As a way to help mark our celebratory year, please use this response form to begin to share your thoughts, stories, quotes, and ideas about your connection to the work of Equity Trust. We are also seeking your advice about media in your community which might be interested in writing about our work, including both particular projects and our overall mission, so we can use this anniversary year to further spread the word about Equity Trust.

THANK YOU!
